Beware of this scam

March 4, 2011
From a Lotus computers customer:
“We recently advertised a car with Trading Post and immediately got two almost identical replies via my husband’s mobile phone (it was listed as a contact).  They asked to be emailed at certain email addresses for more details about the car.  Both of them them immediately offered to buy the car ($30,000) sight unseen, both were ‘buying for Dad’ and said they would pay by  PayPal as that was the only access they had to money.  They both said they had a car carrier at the ready and as soon as we received the PayPal receipt they would pick up the car.  Sensing something was not quite right, I called PayPal and they are unknown to them and not registered, I also called Trading Post who said it is a scam and not to proceed further (they took details from me as to their names and addresses).  Apparently they issue a fake PayPal receipt and before you can do anything, the car is gone.  One of them is listed on Trading Post’s fraud list (they have a very long list of names and email addresses).  I am always suspicious of things that are just too good to be true but I am sure there are people out there who will be taken in.”
